James, solid read. Was for sure expecting you to mention hall tho.
How did you think the Devils looked? Pavel zacha has a high ceiling. Was looking forward to him vs strome. |

I actually agree with the line combos and pretty much everything you said. It generally can be chalked up to DT probably not trusting his young guys in key situations. Last season, the roster was so bad, that he was forced to play Domi and Duclair higher than he probably wanted to and wouldnt you know it, it turned out to be a good thing. But being a veteran coach of the old school, DT itsn't about to let that happen again. I like DT as a coach, in the right circumstances, but a young talent laden, rookie laden team doesn't gel with the strengths that DT has as a coach. |

The Zacha and Hall combo is dynamite. That's the first I've seen of Jersey all year, they were not as boring as I sterotypically always think they will be. |

I agree exactly with your last sentence. What I don't get is why be so hard on the rookies when the team's gonna suck anyways? |

I know you don't like this convo...but could Schenn's CF not be just as low if he was playing the same comp and vice versa....since it's only 1 game?
What happened to the Drive By Truckers song...it ends early?
I don't really expect a response, so cheers!!!!

Well last night was the first game they've scored more than 2 goals, and hall has half the teams goals so far soo..
But they getting about 30 shots every game and we're shooting like 3%as a team, so I think the goals will.go up. Why no strome?? |

I put in a new version, hopefully it doesn't cut off.
It's completely possible that Schenn played easier minutes last night than say Murphy. However, when he was on the ice, he was a +29% CF relative to his team, and considering the significance of even 1% in something with such a small range, I think it's worth noting.
You are right to point out that it's just one game. It's not a conclusion, but an indication. And for sure it could have been affected by competition, but remember even bad players are still NHL players. A good game is a good game in my book. |

Why no Strome is a complete mystery. Only Tippett and maybe Strome know for sure. But it still seems stupid to me. I'll change my mind if someone gives me some new information, but for now no Strome has be somewhat outraged. |

True..I just find it hard rating players who play against the #1 line compared to the rest of the team..I realize that it's the NHL and most are pretty good players...but my hurdle is that the elite ( usually 1st line guys ) are putting up way greater #'s ( shot attempts ) than the rest of the team...( I know you heard this a million times and we've been down this road...so I'll end it there. )
Good tunes except maybe that bottom one. |

Glad you dig the tunes for once - and props that you keep trying them.
One thing to consider is that if you Schenn plays vs the top line, he's doing it with OEL and not a rookie. So that balances out.
Second, while on the road, the other team is going to try to get their best line out against your worst lines, so they do end up playing them quite a bit anyways. |

I guess if he's playing with OEL, but did the other 2 guys ( or 1 of them ) play with OEL while putting up them gawdy #'s?
....I dug out the guitar to play It's Raining in Baltimore, now I'm going to go cry myself to sleep
edit: I dig lots of the tunes...also dislike lots of the tunes.
Cheers. |

It is my contention that the Counting Crows are perhaps THE most under appreciated band in rock and roll history. |

This team will never succeed until they get a new coach. Tippett's system is outdated and is hurting the development of the youngsters. The dump and chase (or dump and play defense) system is horrible, and I can count on my hand the number of times they actually carry the puck into the offensive end.
The team passing is non-existent. They play like they hate their line mates. |

I do like that album a lot...not sure about the most under appreciated. I wish they would have put out more music/toured more etc.

Because in a coaches mind, his job is to win not cultivate rookies who will be good when he's possibly fired. At least I think that is the old school mentality. They feel they have a better chance of winning with vets, regardless of whether those vets are 3rd line grinders and the rookie is a top notch talent like Strome. |

I love Tippet, But I agree with you James. He may be fired soon. Time for a change! This team is such a disappointment. Great write up today. And great music as always! |

I want to watch the roomies as much as anyone else, but Strome is just bad and not ready. He is always out of position on defense. I think that's just growing pains, but to make it worse he has flashed almost nothing on offense. He even ha gotten PP time and absolutely nothing. I don't think they'll send him down cause you don't want to demoralize your prize prospect, but in all honesty, they should. He's not an NHL top 6 player yet and while I am ok with losing, I don't think he will benefit from getting dominated.
as for line combos, it won't matter if we just keep on dump and chasing!!! From the other wunderkind (Kyle dubas) one of the keys to driving possession is intelligent zone entries and we are botching it. If they can fix that, then I mostly agree with your lines, BUT you forgot mcginn, and I actually think the cross is thru the roof for the hanzal, domi, vrbata line so I'd keep them together. And on defense if he bold and put chycrun ahead of goligoski...he's been the best player not named OEL and it would send a great message. AGREE???
Domi - Hanzal - Vrbata
Mcginn - Dvorak - Duclair
Martinook - Dauphin - Doan
Rieder - Richardson - White (send crouse down, and bench White for the first promising roadrunner)
OEL - Schenn
Chycrun - Murphy
Goligoski - Stone |

hey Tanner, agree with most and I am actually surprised about Schenn this Season, but:
playing Hanzal with anyone else than Doan and Vrbata is chaos,
the Duclair Domi Hanzal line - Hanzal was always at least two steps too late or out of position or just surprised about the puck, same when he was skating with Strome and Rieder.
Maybe it is because he is still not 1005 but when you are on the ice you are 100%. At the moment I would rather see him traded.
with his History of injuries maybe that would be the better deal now (and his being an ufa after the season)
and Tippet needs to really think about what his goal is this Season and stick to futureproof line combos, imho. I really liked when Strome Domi and Duclair were on a Line |
